Place Value
Many of us are familiar with something called the “standard algorithm,” or stacking numbers to find an answer when adding and subtracting. Although there is nothing wrong with this strategy, we’ve learned that sometimes it can get in the way of understanding how place value works. When students practice different strategies for adding and subtracting, they will be able to use their understanding of place value to solve problems flexibly with even bigger numbers. Check out the video lesson and resources below to practice Place Value at home!
