Heart Math Tutoring Receives $100,000 Grant from the Trane Technologies Foundation
May 29, 2025
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 29, 2025) – Heart Math Tutoring (HMT), a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing math proficiency and academic confidence among Charlotte elementary students, announced today that Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator, has provided a $100,000 grant through their Foundation to further HMT’s impact in the 2025/26 school year. The Trane Technologies Foundation funding will help sustain HMT’s programming that provides elementary students with the foundational math skills and academic confidence needed for long-term success through one-on-one tutoring, delivered by volunteers.
“Heart Math Tutoring is thrilled to partner with Trane Technologies as we work together to provide fun and impactful experiences in math for our community’s children. Trane Technologies’ generous investment will help maximize the positive difference Heart volunteers and staff make in student math skills and confidence every day,” said Glenda Mauck, HMT’s Vice President of Development.
The Trane Technologies Foundation grant advances Trane Technologies’ corporate citizenship strategy, Sustainable Futures, which promotes access to STEM and sustainability education and careers for students underrepresented in the STEM industry. “At Trane Technologies, our view of a sustainable future is one that provides equitable access to resources and opportunities, and this program helps our community move the dial,” said Deidra Parrish Williams, Director of Trane Technologies Foundation and Corporate Citizenship.
The 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress showed only 29 percent of economically disadvantaged 4th graders in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) are proficient in math. In response, Heart Math Tutoring recruits, trains, and supports volunteers as tutors in high-need CMS elementary schools. Over 1,100 Charlotte community members, including Trane Technologies employees, spend one hour each week delivering Heart Math Tutoring’s activity-based, structured curriculum.
With the support of partners like Trane Technologies, Heart Math Tutoring has grown since 2013 to serve 1,000+ students across 23 Charlotte schools. In the 2024/25 school year, 96 percent of students who finished Heart’s program met growth goals in math, growing in two or more building block concept areas, and over 90 percent of teachers consistently report an increase in student confidence and enthusiasm toward math as a result of Heart Math Tutoring.
