Heart Math Tutoring Launches Funding Initiative to Double School Partners

Goal is to fund 15 CMS school sites in 2016/17 school year

We are proud to announce that we have launched our funding initiative for the 2016/17 school year. Our goal is to double our number of school partners and reach 15 CMS school sites! The plan is to raise $750,000 by June 30, 2016 to support 750 students and 860 volunteer tutors across 15 schools in 2016/17. A message from CMS Chief of Staff Ernest Winston and the CMS Board of Education:

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education invites anyone interested in the success of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to help inform future decisions on how students in CMS are assigned to schools. The Board wants to hear what’s important to you and invites you to complete an online student assignment survey. Changes to student assignment would take effect in the 2017-2018 school year.

Heart Math Tutoring Honors Volunteers at Second Annual HeartThrob Event

Heart kicked off February with its Second Annual HeartThrob event! The sold-out event had 260 guests at Draught on Friday, Feb. 5 for an evening of fun and celebration to honor the work of Heart’s young professional tutors, who make up almost half of Heart’s volunteer base. Ticket sales from the event benefitted Heart, and event sponsors included BB&T, Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, 9Round Dilworth, Java Joes, T. Reid and Company Salon & Spa.

CMS Chief Academic Officer Brian Schultz Joins Heart Math Tutoring Board of Directors

Heart is proud to announce that we have has appointed Brian Schultz, chief academic officer of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), to our board of directors.

Schultz’s academic career includes the past five years at CMS where he has held positions ranging from principal of Torrence Creek Elementary to executive director for the Central Secondary Zone and of the Northeast Learning Community.
