CMS Chief Academic Officer Brian Schultz Joins Heart Math Tutoring Board of Directors

Heart is proud to announce that we have has appointed Brian Schultz, chief academic officer of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), to our board of directors.

Schultz’s academic career includes the past five years at CMS where he has held positions ranging from principal of Torrence Creek Elementary to executive director for the Central Secondary Zone and of the Northeast Learning Community. Staff Spotlight: Paige Burnette, Program Coordinator at Winterfield Elementary

01.21.2016 Paige began working for Heart in August of 2014 and this is her second year as the Program Coordinator at Winterfield Elementary. She also serves as the Office and Communications Manager for Heart.

A Greensboro native, Paige graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with degrees in Sociology and History. She is currently working towards a MA in Counseling from Wake Forest University. GEM Grant Helps Heart Math Tutoring Expand Impact on Social Mobility in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jan. 19, 2016 – A $50,000 grant from Global Endowment Management Foundation (GEM), has helped Heart Math Tutoring (Heart) – a nonprofit group dedicated to helping students in high-poverty concentration schools develop math skills and academic confidence – expand its impact on social mobility in Charlotte.

Through its employee-led grant cycle, the GEM Foundation provided a $50,000 grant to Heart over two years including $40,000 in December 2014 and the $10,000 in December 2015. The $40,000 grant allowed Heart … continue reading

Combinations to 10 is the title of Heart’s third concept notebook. It is considered the linchpin within the curriculum, as so many higher level skills depend on the ability to compose and decompose numbers up to 10.
