Heart Math Tutoring Receives Apparo’s Mission Possible Economic Opportunity Grant

Heart was awarded a $60,000 cash and pro bono contribution from Accenture at Apparo’s ConnectivIT Ball, presented by Microsoft! The award is Apparo’s first Mission Possible Economic Opportunity Award. A panel of CIO judges chose a technology project that will impact economic opportunity in Charlotte. Heart Math Tutoring Kicks Off Spring Funding Initiative

Heart Math Tutoring kicks off its spring funding initiative today with a boost from The Leon Levine Foundation, who has awarded Heart a $350,000 capacity-building grant! The grant is payable over three years as Heart offers one-on-one tutoring to more students, scales its work, and becomes more sustainable. $130,000 of the grant goes towards Heart’s current funding initiative, which seeks $880K to partner with 18 schools in the 2017/18 school year. Wilson’s World joined Heart students at Montclaire Elementary this morning to celebrate PiDay. Students Scarlett and Oscar talked with their 5th grade teacher Mr. O’Leary about how they incorporate Pi in the classroom, and why they enjoy math!

Heart Math Tutoring Celebrates Volunteers at Third Annual HeartThrob Event

More than 340 people attended the Third Annual HeartThrob event to support Heart Math Tutoring (Heart) – a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students in high-poverty elementary schools develop math skills and academic confidence.

Organized by Heart volunteer tutors, HeartThrob took place on Feb. 10 at Flight Beer & Music Hall to honor the work of Heart’s young professional tutors, who make up almost half of Heart’s volunteer base. Heart Math Tutoring Receives School Sponsorship-Level Grants from The Belk Foundation and Faison Enterprises

Heart wrapped up 2016 with school sponsorship-level grants from The Belk Foundation and Faison Enterprises.

The Belk Foundation has made a two-year commitment of $40,000 per year, and Faison Enterprises has awarded $30,000 to Heart. The grants are at the “school sponsorship” level, each providing tutoring from September to May to over 50 students who are performing below grade level in elementary math.
