North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Awards Heart Math Tutoring $25,000 Grant to Expand Program

Heart Math Tutoring is proud to announce that we have received a $25,000 grant from the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation’s Ribbon of Hope program to expand the volunteer math tutoring program to a new school site for the 2016-17 school year.

“We are excited to support the expansion of this very important math program” said Marilyn Foote-Hudson, Executive Director at the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation.

Amanda Saunders, a second grade teacher at Billingsville Leadership Academy, shared the impact of Heart Math Tutoring’s volunteers on her students in the latest issue of My School Rocks! magazine.

“We do some of the same activities in math class, and it’s great to hear some of the kids say ‘Oh, I practiced that last time with my tutor,’” Saunders says in the article.

Heart Receives Education Grant From Charlotte Hornets Foundation, Lowe’s

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Lowe’s Education Grant program awarded a total of $50,000 to Heart Math Tutoring and five other local organizations to support high-need education-related projects.

Heart Math Tutoring received a $5,000 grant in support of its math intervention program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for 2016-17. Executive Director Emily Elliott and a second grade Heart student from Billingsville Leadership Academy accepted the grant during the check presentation ceremony during halftime at the Charlotte Hornets game Nov. 20 against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Heart Math Tutoring Featured On Charlotte Talks

Charlotte Talks, one of the region’s top news talk programs, featured Heart Math Tutoring and other innovative math programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in its Nov. 3 broadcast.

The hourlong show featured Emily Elliott, Heart’s Executive Director, host Mike Collins and guests Tim Chartier, associate professor of mathematics and computer science at Davidson College, and Kaneka Turner, an elementary math specialist at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
