Heart Math Tutoring on Winston-Salem’s Fox8 News Channel

February 24, 2026

A Heart Math Tutoring session was recently featured on Fox8 News Channel in Winston-Salem. The channel shared clips of volunteer tutors smiling with their students and interviewed Heart’s Executive Director of National Partnerships Cydney Clifton and Program Director Freda Robinson.

The segment highlighted the generous support The Winston-Salem Foundation has provided Heart and emphasized the importance of the foundational math skills Heart’s curriculum focuses on. Cydney shared, “…I describe it as like pouring concrete onto the cracks. If we can firm up that foundation, then [students are] able to go back into their classroom and have a better understanding of the numbers that they’re working in and be able to achieve at higher levels.”

Freda spoke to the strong relationships Heart students build with their tutors and how that impacts their progress in math, “…part of [tutoring] is building relationships with the students, building trust and making sure that the students know that there’s someone who’s there to support them and to help them, and once they build that trust with them, it makes it a lot easier to overcome the obstacles that they’re having with math.”
