HMT CEO Talks with CMS Board of Education Member Dr. Charlitta Hatch

Last week, Dr. Charlitta Hatch interviewed Heart Math Tutoring (HMT) CEO Emily Gaffney on her podcast, The Community Classroom. Dr. Hatch is the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education member for District 1 as well as the City of Charlotte’s Deputy CIO & Chief Data & Analytics Officer. In their conversation, Gaffney and Dr. Hatch spoke about how HMT has evolved to support over 1,000 CMS students, the importance of a positive identity in math, and how HMT volunteers impact the development of a student’s academic confidence. Gaffney shared she believes everyone is a “math person,” saying, “It’s really important for students to know they can do [math] and that people in their life who know them and appreciate them believe that they can do it too.”
